We use only premium proteins and vegetables and our salsa, guacamole, queso and sauces are made on site, fresh daily from the best ingredients we can get our hands on. In fact, there’s no freezer on site at all. Our menu is Chef-Inspired, and while we cater to individual needs, we offer bold and exciting flavor profiles in our signature products.

How many locations are there?
As of April 2018, we have 41 open restaurants, as well as 68 units that have been awarded and will be open soon. We have opened up franchise opportunities to the rest of the country, so get ready to see a Cal Tort in your market soon!
What is the initial investment required for a Cal Tort franchise?
The initial cost of a California Tortilla ranges from $402,400 to $697,000, which pays for the build-out and start-up expenses.
What are the initial requirements to be consider for a franchise?
Strong business management and customer service skills. Restaurant experience is a big plus. We require a minimum of $250,000 in liquid assets and a net worth of $1 million.
What is the franchise fee?
The franchise fee is $40,000.
What is the franchise royalty?
There is a 5% ongoing royalty. California Tortilla also requires an advertising fee of 2% for system wide marketing strategies and materials, and an additional 0.5% is required to be spent by the Franchise Owner on local marketing efforts.
Is financing available?
Yes, financing is available to qualified borrowers through third party lenders.
How much money can I make?

What is the term of the franchise agreement?
The initial term of your California Tortilla franchise agreement is ten years, with a subsequent successor option of 10 years.
What type of training will I receive?
We provide training programs to prepare you for opening your first location. Our initial training is conducted in our headquarters in Maryland. Our hands-on training is designed to engage you and your managers one-on-one for 5 days in your first location, within 8 weeks of your opening.
Is there ongoing support?
Following your opening, we continue to provide ongoing support to you by phone, email, and through on-site visits to your location. We are constantly researching and developing new menu items, marketing campaigns and vendors. We regularly update our operations manual with new procedures and other information designed to improve operations for all our Franchise Owners. We’re also available to conduct ongoing training programs for new managers.
How long does it take to be awarded a franchise?
We have an education process that allows us to provide you with the information on the opportunity, as well as learn all about you to see if you would be a good fit for our community. This process has multiple stages and takes anywhere from 4 – 8 weeks.
